| Harbourtown is definitely not a rubber stamp
band. They have created and fine tuned their own particular sound. They are
known for excellent talent, neatly dressed appearance, honesty and fairness,
and being family oriented. They have a wonderful sense of humor, that
occasionally spills over into surprises to delight their audience. Their
bookings from Canada to Kentucky, with return engagements offered, are
testimony to the caliber of this outstanding band. Harbourtown, originally known as Harbourtown Grass was formed in 1974 by Tony Hickman and has grown into one of the finest bands heard anywhere. Tony, and wife Janet, live in Vermilion, Ohio, located west of Cleveland on Lake Erie’s shore. Vermilion is a harbor for boaters and vacationers, so eventually the town’s nickname "Harbourtown" emerged, thus the origin of the band’s name. Band member include Tony Hickman (guitar, vocals), Lynn Fox (mandolin, vocals), Kurt Hickman (bass, vocals), and Jerome Cole (banjo.) |

| Johnny Possum's Good
Time Hootin' Band Way back in the spring of 2005 Johnny Possum’s Good Time Hootin’ Band (but you can just call us ‘The Possums’ for short) was formed to help spread the bluegrass and old time music message throughout New Zealand, Australia and the rest of the world. Our aim is to play the best bluegrass and old time music this side of the equator. We got a group of superb musicians together with many years experience and ability, and took to the music like the proverbial ‘duck to water’. You’ll hear banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and upright (or ‘doghouse’) bass as well as some tight 3 part harmonies. We deliver an entertaining show full of your old and new favourites with a huge helping of our own brand of humour thrown in. Now we play Old Time and Bluegrass music so good that your feet will be stompin', your hands will be clappin', your thighs will be slappin’ & your toes will be tappin'. We can play at any Festival, Event, Party, Barn Dance or Occasion you can imagine. |

| Showcase Bands -- August 30,2007 | Thursday |
The band list final - February 2007; Revised June 26, 2007
Acoustic Instruments WorkshopsFor the past few years musical workshops have been offered by the Northern Indiana Bluegrass Association during their semiannual Tri-State Bluegrass Festivals at the Noble County fairgrounds in Kendallville. These workshops are generally free of charge to the attendees.
Practical instruction is given for playing traditional bluegrass instruments like banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and bass fiddle. The instructors for these sessions are volunteers who play in the various bands that are performing at the festivals or ,at times, other accomplished musician members of NIBGA. Each regular workshop lasts approximately one half hour and is intended to demonstrate the basics of playing. Frequently the session goes on well past the ending time as the instructor stays to demonstrate advanced techniques for the more accomplished players.
The Beginner’s Jam, is a favorite of newcomers to bluegrass music. This Jam is intended to give beginning musicians a chance to play in a group with other musicians of similar abilities.
NIBGA plans to aggressively continue these educational activities to interest people in Bluegrass music and promote it’s playing by a wide base of fans.
