Pickin’ at the Festival

Where Are the Jams at the Festival?

If you’re looking for pickin’, you won’t have to look far!
Jams break out all over the 65-acre fairgrounds—from early morning until long after the last stage show wraps up.

Where the Jams Happen

  • North Side of the Fairgrounds:
The heart of the picking scene. You’ll find music happening day and night, often in circles scattered between RVs, tents, and tree-covered spots.

  • South Side of the Grounds:
Generally quieter after the final evening stage show. Great if you prefer a calmer camping area.

Before the Festival Begins

Many RVers arrive the weekend before the festival to claim their favorite spot and start playing with friends.

It’s common to see 100+ rigs on-site by the Sunday before the holiday weekend—picking already in full swing!

Join a Jam!

Part of what makes the NIBGA festivals special is the community atmosphere.
Bring your instrument—chances are someone is picking the songs you love.

Most groups are welcoming, but it helps to follow a little jam etiquette:

  • Listen first. Step back and see if it’s a public jam or a band practicing.

  • Check the vibe. Are they playing tunes you know? Is the circle tight or open?

  • Ease in. When it feels right, move a little closer and wait for eye contact or a nod.

  • Contribute respectfully. Keep volume balanced and follow the flow of the group.

All Skill Levels Welcome

From beginners to seasoned pickers, jams include musicians of every level.
They run all day and well into the night—some folks come for the jams more than the stage show!

As the saying goes:
“Some people don’t even know there is a stage show—they just come to jam!”
